List of World Events Canceled for 2020 Due to the COVID-19 Outbreak

As the number of cases of infected people continually increasing, a lot of events in the Philippines and the rest of the world has been canceled. Here is the list of those Canceled events for 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

This list discusses the canceled events and not the postponed ones.

Canceled Events in the Philippines

Civil Service exam – The Civil Service Commission decided to cancel the professional and sub-professional Career Service Examination that was originally scheduled on March 15.

Baguio’s Panagbenga Festival – The mayor of Baguio City Benjamin Magalong decided to cancel the famous festival. It is to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Avril Lavigne Concert – The popular singer announced on her Facebook page that she will cancel all here Asian tours (including the Philippine) due to the novel coronavirus scare.

Lubao Hot Air Balloon Festival – The organizers of the Lubao Hot Air Balloon Festival in Pampanga decided to cancel the event amid the COVID-19 outbreak. It was originally scheduled from April 3-5.

Kaamulan Festival in Bukidnon – The Governor of Bukidnon Jose Maria Zubiri canceled the festival that was slated from March 23-April 23.

Magayon Festival in Albay – To honor the beauty of Mayon Volcano, the Magayon Festival is yearly held (every April specifically). However, the Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara decided to cancel the event.

Canceled Events Worldwide

South by Southwest (SXSW) – An annual event Austin, Texas was canceled by Austin’s Mayor Steve Adler on March 6.

Coachella and Stagecoach – Both major music festivals were postponed until October due to the outbreak.

E3 – This year’s biggest video game convention that is set to take place in Los Angeles in June is now officially canceled.

Adobe Annual Summit – Adobe decided to cancel its annual summit in Las Vegas due to the growing concerns about the COVID-19 outbreak.

Full Frame Documentary Film Festival – The schedule of the event that was scheduled to take place at Duke University in April was canceled.

RuPaul’s DragCon LA – DragCon officially canceled the event this year.

Prague Film Festival – The Prague International Film Festival is now canceled as the virus spreads in Europe.

Facebook F8 Developers Conference – Facebook decided to cancel the annual F8 Developers Conference amid the COVID-19 fear. It was originally scheduled from May 5-6.

2020 BNP Paribas Open – The tennis tournament is the first major sporting event in the US that was canceled due to the outbreak.

Seattle Emerald City Comic Con – Several attendees of this Comic-Con such as DC Comics already canceled appearances concerning the outbreak. The event organizer also offered refund tickets to anyone who decides not to attend.

Game Developers Conference – Various brands like Electronic Arts and Microsoft already canceled their appearance to this year’s GDC.

The London Book Fair – The London Book Fair which is one of the world’s largest international book festival was also canceled amid coronavirus concerns.

Ultra Music Festival – This year’s edition of Miami’s electronic music festival was also canceled.

Tomorrowland Music Festival – The French Electronic Music Festival ‘Tomorrowland’ also decided to cancel the event that was originally set to run from March 14-21.

Livre Paris Book Fair – Livre Paris Book Fair, which is an annual event, also announced that the 2020 edition that was originally planned for March 20-23 will also be canceled as France’s precautions in banning all indoor gatherings.

The New York City Half Marathon – The event that was planned on March 15 has been canceled.

CinemaCon 2020 – CinemaCon is the largest gathering of theater owners around the world. And recently, The National Association of Theatre Owners announced that the event, which was originally planned in Las Vegas from March 30th – April 2nd, has been canceled.

National Book Critics Circle Award Ceremony – The NBCC recently canceled the finalists’ readings and the award ceremony. However, the winners will still be announced online and on social media.
