3 Simple Packing Tips for Your Next Vacation
When and where are you traveling next?
Going on vacation is always an exciting prospect, one we often begin preparing for the moment we step foot back in our homes the previous year. This year, when getting ready to pack for your vacation, think about any problems you had last year and then do something to avoid them this time around.
Before looking at some packing tips, you will need to have a high quality set of luggage. Bear in mind that quality isn’t always reserved for name brands however those brands got where they are based on the quality provided over time. If you are confused as to which brand and type of luggage you need, check out Luggage Council Reviews to see what other travelers are saying. Once you have your luggage in hand it’s time to start packing!
Forget What Your Mom Taught You, Roll your clothes– Don’t Fold!
Most of us have grown up with mothers who spent literally hours teaching us how to fold our pants and shirts so they don’t wrinkle. But no matter how close you get to what mom could accomplish, you still arrive at the other end with a wrinkled lot of clothes. Seasoned travelers suggest you roll your clothes instead of folding them because in this way you will have no creases.
Make a List and Stick to It!
Remember last year when you came back home with 7 pair of shorts you never wore but with 5 new T shirts you needed while at the beach? Think about what you had too many of and too few of last year and move on from there. Make your list based on where you are going and what you intend to do while there. Will you be needing an evening attire? What about special activities such as the beach where you’ll need beach clothes, a beach towel, sunglasses and sunscreen. Make sure to make your list based on what you’ll be doing not on what you’d like to be seen wearing!

Luggage Policy with the Airlines
When packing make sure you understand how much you are allowed to take with you based on their baggage policy. Some airlines charge per bag, others allow for one bag checked in to baggage and one carry on. If what you intend to bring won’t fit in the bag you are allowed to check, find out how much the extra fee is prior to packing that bag. Can you not bring a larger bag so that you will only need one? That would certainly leave a bit more money to spend on vacation. Every dollar adds up and you never know what you might want to see, do or eat while on vacation this year.
Take your time to pack so that you don’t arrive without something you really needed. There is nothing like getting dressed for the day only to find out you’ve left your socks or underwear at home in the dryer! By making a list early and checking things off as you pack them, you’ll be ready to have fun this year without the added worry of shopping for something you’ve forgotten. Won’t that be nice?

I travel with a small empty spray bottle. Once I get to my destination I just mist all my clothes with plain water and stretch/tug at and hang… works well. I used to travel with the bundle method but I found that if you are on the move you are constantly unbending and re bundling. I now use the roll method – takes up less space but does increase wrinkles.
One thing I always forget to bring is a towel. We got back to our hostel after a full day of hiking and realized it was going to be difficult to shower until we searched our little Italian town for any type of drying cloth. I just have such a hard time sparing room in my suitcase for towels!
Hi Kach,
That rolling of the clothes is genius, so simple!
I’ve always been a light packer, but I’ll be forwarding these tips to my parents. They tend to travel and take way too much.
