7 Romantic Things to Do in Dubai, UAE for Honeymooners
Marhaba! (Arabic greeting for hello) I have traveled to Dubai a few times now and each time is like the first time, where it holds the same exotic fascination and intrigue.
The first time I traveled there – it was for a dual celebration of my birthday and engagement.
I can only describe it as a destination of sheer ‘opulence’ where everything appears to be bigger and better!
The wealth of the Emiratis is evident, from the mirrored skyscrapers that speckle the skyline, to the immaculate homes and the expensive cars or Hummers that they drive, not to mention the bling!!
The shopping malls in Dubai are just out of this world! The Dubai Mall houses a gigantic indoor aquarium, while the Mall of the Emirates has ‘Ski Dubai’ as an indoor ski resort.
Dubai is naturally humid, so I would recommend packing some light and cool clothing. Now is also probably an opportune moment to also mention that the United Arab Emirates is a deeply conservative country.
I would suggest that it is a good idea to be somewhat mindful and conscious of your attire and how you behave in public.
This is not to take away from your travel experience – it is just showing respect by making a concerted effort to follow the accepted behaviors, cultural beliefs, and values of your host country.
Anyway, with that said there is just so much to see and do in Dubai!
It wasn’t easy, but from my own personal experience, I finally managed to narrow it down to only “7 Awesome (Romantic) things to do in Dubai.”
Here’s the link where you can find the Cheapest Online Hotel Booking in Dubai.
Table of Contents
1. ‘Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend’ – The Gold & Diamond Park
A ‘must see’ place to visit if you are in the market to buy top quality jewelry, with nothing sold under 18K in white or yellow gold.
You will be amazed by the ‘wall-to-wall’ of Jewellers’ located inside the Park and overwhelmed by choice. As a word of caution here, you need to be careful with whom you deal with when shopping in this area as it can be a tourist trap to the unsuspecting.
My personal favorite Jeweller is “Cara Jewellers” where I had my engagement, wedding and anniversary rings made (and they are beautiful). The Manager knows me by sight, and his team of professional experts offer a great service with ‘value for money’ deals.
Be prepared to negotiate and know the 4 C’s of diamonds (Colour, Clarity, Cut and Carat).
Then when you are happy with your purchase, one of their driver’s will personally chauffeur you back to your hotel. Winning!
2. ‘Culture, it leaves an impression your Soul’ – Ladies, Get a Henna tattoo
To celebrate my upcoming wedding, I wanted a beautiful memento of my time in Dubai.
I settled on a henna tattoo (which is of traditional and cultural significance in Dubai) and selected a simple flower design.
It was a unique experience – where a thick, dark brown paste was applied to my hand and definitely had a distinct aroma to it. The price was very inexpensive.
However, for more elaborate wedding designs the cost will be more expensive.
A henna tattoo fades over time but should last approximately 3-4 weeks.
3. Enjoy the Wuthering Heights – ‘At the Top’ Observation Deck, Burj Khalifa’
The ‘sky’s the limit’ when you ascend to the 124th floor of the remarkable ‘Burj Khalifa’ as the world’s tallest skyscraper and an iconic symbol of the Dubai skyline.
You may experience butterflies in your stomach as the ‘Express lift’ rockets you to the ‘top.’
Once at the observation deck, representatives will welcome you as you admire the unparalleled views of Dubai City as a desert oasis. It is quite a transcendental experience.
As your couple’s visit comes to an end you will pass through the designated ‘Souvenir’ shop, where you can purchase your “At the Top” photo as a special and unforgettable keepsake.
4. ‘A history lesson across the passage of time’ – A Dhow Cruise
Enjoy a gentle cruise along the Dubai Creek in of the most traditional seafaring crafts, still used today as a means of transport to ferry goods from Dubai.
All Aboard!! Get comfy on either the lower deck or upper deck and settle in with a refreshment as you leave the dock.
There will be an interesting audio history of Dubai Creek, the area and its founding rulers as you take in the sights that line the creek with symbolic Mosques, modern commercial buildings and super yachts owned by wealthy Emiratis.
You may even get passed by smaller vessels, ferrying tourists’ across to the local spice markets.
Even better – book dinner on a ‘Night Dhow Cruise’ and love the atmosphere that only a romantic evening cruise can offer.
5. ‘A once in a lifetime gastronomic experience’ – Afternoon Tea at the 6* Burj Al Arab
The very famous 6* Sail shaped hotel of the ‘Burj Al Arab’ is a masterpiece in both design and luxury.
Now, if your budget does not extend to a honeymoon there, then consider the next BEST thing which is a memorable and gastronomic dining experience (it will be considerably less expensive).
If you book a reservation online, make sure to take your voucher as you will need this to gain entry into the Hotel. Also, ensure to come dressed in your finest threads as there is a ‘Dress code’ in place.
Upon taking the ‘express lift’ to the ‘Skyview’ bar and once your reservation is confirmed, you will be escorted to your seating.
Then the ‘gastronomic’ experience will begin with seven delicious courses, and all served on a ‘Burj Al Arab’ inspired serving tray.
I adored the ambiance and personal service of the professional ‘Guest Services’ staff who ensured the tea and coffee were free flowings (as I savored my only glass of lovely Champagne).
As a surprise, I was presented with a small “Happy Birthday” cake and one red rose, which I thought was such a beautiful and generous touch.
6. ‘Lights, Camera, Action’! – The Dubai Fountain Show
Stroll along the Esplanade (from the Dubai Mall) and enjoy a symphony of water, music, and lights together in perfect harmony on the ‘Burj Khalifa’ Lake.
The Dubai Fountain Show is simply spectacular!
The show is even more romantic at night with evening shows from 6.00 -11.00 pm daily.
7. ‘5* Luxury fit for a King and his Queen’ – Raffles Dubai Hotel
This Hotel is the epitome of luxury, designed in the shape of an Egyptian pyramid (with the whole Egyptian theme as the key influence of the decor throughout the hotel).
Spoil yourselves among classic panache and royal grandness at its best and finest!
Need to be pampered, or indulge in some retail therapy? Then the ‘Wafi Mall’ is conveniently connected to the hotel.
